An intercultural education project

The Irish Traveller Movement is delighted to announce that Arklow Community College has been chosen as one of only 10 schools in Ireland to take part in the Yellow Flag intercultural education model this year. The Yellow Flag Programme will be run along the same lines as the Green Schools Project; on completion of a series of steps the school will be awarded a Yellow Flag in recognition of its commitment to diversity.
The eight steps will be as follows and will be undertaken between September 2011 and June 2012
Step 1 Intercultural and Anti-Racism Training for Staff and Management
Step 2 Going beyond the school walls; Engaging with the Community
Step 3 Establishment of the Diversity Committee (including parents, pupils, teachers and other staff)
Step 4 Intercultural Review
Step 5 Action Plan for a Diverse School
Step 6 Monitoring and Evaluation
Step 7 Development of Curriculum Work
Step 8 Production of a Diversity Code & Anti Racist Policy

The Yellow Flag Programme is unique in that it will promote a whole school approach in supporting interculturalism on both a practical and theoretical level. To that end, we would be delighted to hear about any input, ideas, advice or support that you can give to make the programme a success. You can make recommendations to the Co-ordinator or join the Diversity Committee. Please feel free to get in touch with Paula Madden for any further details and or with any queries or supports required throughout the year.
